Bill,
Unfortunately I cannot get up as its too far for me to travel from North Yorkshire but I heard from a wee Birdy (Wullie) that you are having a raffle on the night, so I am in the process of making a set of Trotting Floats for you to raffle off for the good & benefit of the club, I have Allan’s address so will send them to him.
Have fun everyone sorry I cant make it.

Hi Alby,
do we have letterheads with the club name, i need to put a letter into the bowling club to secure a booking, if you have can you bring one to the meeting on Thursday, my printer is not working so i can not download anything.
Thanks
Bill
Hi Bill
Yes will do – cheers – see you Thursday
Just to let you know I had a fantastic time at the reservoir today. The fishing was hard with very little showing on the surface. I managed to pick up a few small trout as I walked around the far shore but nothing big. Just as I thought that it wasn’t going to be my day, I saw a small swirl at my bob fly and then found myself fighting one of the Glengavel monsters. After a fight of about 5 minutes I managed to land a trout of at least 3lb. Well pleased with myself, I wandered back to the boathouse to boast about my triumph. After a cup of coffee (thanks Billie!) I started fishing again. With not much happening, I thought I would take a boat our for a couple of hours. Alan Tipple joined me.
We had a couple of drifts near the boat house but with no luck so we decided to go right up to the top where the river flows in. On the first drift I got another gentle tug and before I knew it I was in to another huge fish. When we finally got it into the net it was at even bigger than my previous fish, well over 4lb.
Another couple of small fish were caught before we headed back to the boathouse.
All fish were returned safely, so they’ll be waiting for me for next month’s competition.
Roddy
Hi Roddy – great post – sounds like you had great fun – wish I’d been there – cheers
Hi All, I think I’m starting to get the hang of this fly fishing mallarkey at last.
Down at Craig Bridge for 2/3 hours this afternoon, the water was quite high and coloured, but had a go anyway and landed a lovely 1lb 2oz broonie on a partridge and orange(yet again), that was it for the session apart from a couple of snatches which I missed. Happy camper yet again.
All the best, Sam
Absolutely brilliant report Sam – love to hear your stories that Partridge & Orange seems to be the fly for you – cheers –

Hi All,
A new window was fitted in the apex above the doors of the boathouse today by myself and my mentor J.C. ( who needs a tape )Tait , thanks Jim.
This window increases the light by a great deal and also offers from the executive lounge at the rear of the bistro a panamaric view of the hills accross the loch ( think we will need to change the name to Bay View Bistro.
Another great step forward today , our resident chef Billy changed the oil in the frying pan ( first since March ) this offers members a greater degree of safety when dining.
On a more serious note the memo is now posted for the social night so please get your name on the list as soon as possible
Thanks
Bill.
Catching up on all the posts:
Phones
Glad to hear Vodaphone works okay but I pretend it doesn’t: I dont get out much and when I do I want peace, I can get nagged at when I arrive home, dont need it at the fishing, all the way home then the same nagging when I get home.
Bistro
Billy makes a great cup of tea, if I knew the oil had been changed I might have had a snack and could have stayed out all last night.
Note (WARNING) to Alby
I cleaned the window last night and was berated by JCT and Bill because I didn’t make a great job of it, as it is your turn next can I suggest you wear your Apron, squeeze into your Marigolds, bring some alcohol free (they might drink meths) liquid detergent, a chamois to agitate, a squeegie to remove any excess, a polishing dolly for sparkle, sun glasses to prevent blindness oh and a set of ear muffs cause it still wont be good enough!
Fishing
Got 3 on the dry fly last night and took one about 3/4 for my tea, it was lovely. Frustrating night fishing a Mayfly: some very nice approaches to my fly, strike too fast – gone, strike too slow – gone, let them drown it leave it and let them return – dont have the bottle, light a small cigar and loose sight of your fly – works a treat!!!
P.S
Forgot to mention we need two volunteers on a week about basis to clean the new window, as it is up fairly high Jim has put forward for the task to Albi and Tommy ( please sort out the rota ).
I’m now scared to go fishing – if the good lady catches me in marigolds cleaning windows the consequences could be dire –
I’d rather spend my time listening to Van Morrison singing one of my favourite tunes though “Cleaning Windows”
Lost Net – I lost a scoop net I think over on the west bank some where a couple of weeks ago it fell of my magnetic lanyard anybody spotted one?
Alby,
did you get the picture of my big broonie ?, Billy caught a nice one 4lb (17th )
got a picture of it if you want it.
Ps got one about 2lb and 3x 3/4lb not a bad day
Hi Bill
Glad you found the post about your Trout -.yes please send me the picture of Billy’s fish.
Sorry Alby,
Saw my fish under another heading, i will send you Billys tomorrow
Cheers
Thanks for finding & returning my net Jim
ALBY Found your net today big fish still in bay waiting for you must be six to eight lbs i will try again tomorrow JCT
Thanks for finding my net – looking forward to getting out hoping to get out one night during the week – got a realy nice 2lber on Sunday afternoon when i was out with Dougy & Ailie – so need to catch one of them “biggies” – have to say a big THANK YOU to Roddy for tying up some special flys which i am now convinced are the answer for the Glengavel “Ferox” – cheers
Alby
Mobile Phone Signal at reservoir – hi folks how do you find the mobile phone signal at the reservoir is there a network that works better than another – it would be good to know what works best & I’m sure some of you would be keen to know which one doesn’t work?
Albi,
I use Vodofone and in general get a signal in most areas of the loch.
I’m on 3 and there’s no signal It’s great
vodafone surprisingly is gettin a good signal???
I’m on O2 & the signal is rubbish unless you stand on one leg somewhere over by the dam wall – am in agreement it is great – but on serious note it maybe useful for some of our members to know – what Network coverage we do have – thanks for your comments
The Boat House Bistro floor was finished today, thank you to Billy & Alan McCluskie, my son Steven and Jim ( i dont need a tape ) Tait for there help during the project.
Ps. managed to catch a few fish into the bargain.
Bill.
Good job guy`s but u might have left me some fish ffsck lol. Found a small wooden priest just round from the Bistro, left it hanging in the bistro wall.
