Visitors Guide To Strathaven

Trying to provide a Guide For Visitors to Strathaven to help increase tourist anglers to enjoy the wealth of Angling in Lanarkshire.

Strathaven makes an excellent centre for visitors to Lanarkshire & as a centre to explore Lanarkshire’s excellent fresh water fishing.

This part of Lanarkshire is often overlooked by anglers rushing past from the south in there haste to more northerly Scottish fishing destinations.

One of the many great things about this small attractive Market town of only 10,000 people is that we are surrounded by Burns that abound with Trout & the Avon Water is only a short walk from Town.

We would like to think that as our Fishings become better known we will help to increase the number of visitors & tourists to the Strathaven area.

Strathaven has a ruined castle which may have been originally built in 1350. The Romans also visited Strathaven and built a road that runs to the south of the the river running towards Loudon Hill where they kept a fort.

There is an excellent park which has a model railway, boating pond, bowling greens, tennis courts & putting green etc. The town has a couple of very good hotels, a mix of eating spots Italian, Indian & number of busy cafe’s. There is a local brewery making “Strathaven Ale” brewed on the banks of the Avon & available in “The Weavers” a great local pub named after what was once the local industry. Strathaven has an excellent Golf Club which has hosted the SPGA Championship & is possibly one of the best park land Golf Courses in Scotland “Strathaven Golf Club”
